Throne Day, known in French as the Fête du Trône, is celebrated in Morocco on 30 July. It marks the anniversary of King Mohammed VI's accession to the throne in 1999 and is both the country's national day and a public holiday. Each year the King addresses the nation for the occasion, streets and public buildings are decorated with flags, and Moroccan embassies abroad hold official receptions.

- WELCOME1 / 4
Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome. My name is {Your name}, and I'm honoured to welcome you on behalf of {Organisation} as we celebrate Throne Day together. Thank you to our Moroccan friends, and to everyone who shares a love of Morocco, for joining us tonight. - A NATIONAL CELEBRATION2 / 4
On 30 July, Moroccans celebrate the anniversary of the accession of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to the throne in 1999. It is the country's national day and a moment of pride for Moroccans at home and around the world. For us, it is also a chance to celebrate the friendship between our communities. - ANTHEM AND CAKE3 / 4
Please stand for the national anthem of the Kingdom of Morocco.
[NATIONAL ANTHEM]
Thank you. Do take your seats. I now invite {Guest of honour, title} to join me at the front and cut our celebration cake.
[CAKE CUTTING – APPLAUSE] - CLOSING4 / 4
Thank you very much. The formal part of our evening is over, so please stay and enjoy the reception, with mint tea, Moroccan pastries and music. On behalf of all of us at {Organisation}, thank you for celebrating with us, and happy Throne Day.
Red is used only for names, titles, organisations, dates, times and section headings. Replace the words in {curly brackets} with your own details; lines in [SQUARE BRACKETS] are stage directions and are not read aloud.
How to adapt it
- Use the full form, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, when you first mention the King, and keep every reference respectful and ceremonial. Avoid any comment on policy or politics.
- The King's Throne Day address is broadcast nationally each year. If many of your guests are Moroccan, check when it will be broadcast and avoid holding your formal programme at the same time.
- Mint tea and Moroccan pastries make a warm, recognisable welcome. Many guests may not drink alcohol, so offer a good range of soft drinks and keep the cake, rather than a toast, as the central moment.
- Display the Moroccan flag, red with a green pentagram at its centre, at the front of the room, and check that printed flags and decorations reproduce it correctly.
Print and rehearse
“Edit and print these cards” opens the script in the free cue card maker, where you can choose A5, 4 × 6 or 3 × 5 inch cards, print several per sheet with cut lines or export PDF, PowerPoint and Word, and rehearse full screen in practice mode. To write your own programme around it, see how to write an MC script and the run of show template.
