Independence Day, or Eid Al Istiqlal, is a public holiday in Morocco on 18 November. It celebrates the country's independence and recalls the speech made by Mohammed V on 18 November 1955, shortly after his return from exile, affirming national sovereignty. Independence was formally recognised the following year, in 1956. The day is marked with flag displays, official ceremonies and cultural events across the country.

[NATIONAL ANTHEM] - CLOSING4 / 4

Red is used only for names, titles, organisations, dates, times and section headings. Replace the words in {curly brackets} with your own details; lines in [SQUARE BRACKETS] are stage directions and are not read aloud.
How to adapt it
- Do not mix up the dates: 18 November recalls Mohammed V's speech of 1955, while formal recognition of independence came in 1956. Use the 1955 date when you explain the day.
- As 18 November is a public holiday, a school assembly may need to take place the day before. If so, change 'today' in the cards to 'this week'.
- Give the students a clear time limit and let them choose a format they enjoy: a short play, a poem they have written, a timeline of events or a song.
- Invite families to attend, and encourage students to ask older relatives what they know about this period while they prepare their presentation.
Print and rehearse
“Edit and print these cards” opens the script in the free cue card maker, where you can choose A5, 4 × 6 or 3 × 5 inch cards, print several per sheet with cut lines or export PDF, PowerPoint and Word, and rehearse full screen in practice mode. To write your own programme around it, see how to write an MC script and the run of show template.
