National Independence Day, or Narodowe Święto Niepodległości, is a public holiday in Poland on 11 November. It marks the restoration of Polish independence in 1918, after 123 years in which the country had been partitioned between neighbouring powers. The date is linked to Józef Piłsudski taking command of Polish forces in Warsaw. The day is marked with ceremonies at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Warsaw, flags on buildings, concerts and the singing of patriotic songs.

  2. INDEPENDENCE REGAINED
For 123 years, Poland was not an independent state. Its lands had been divided between neighbouring powers. In 1918, as the First World War came to an end, Poland regained its independence. Generations had kept its language, culture and hope alive, and today we honour them.
