Good evening, and happy Fourth of July! I'm {Your name}, and on behalf of {Organization}, welcome to our celebration. Whether your family has been here for generations or you became a citizen last month, tonight belongs to you. Thank you for spending the holiday with us. - WHY WE CELEBRATE2 / 4
On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence. Representatives of 13 colonies announced that they would govern themselves, and set out ideals of liberty and equality that the nation has worked toward ever since. Every year on this date, Americans gather to celebrate that beginning, and so do we. - PLEDGE AND ANTHEM3 / 4
Please rise. {Leader's name} will lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by our national anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner. During the anthem, please face the flag.
[PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE – NATIONAL ANTHEM]
Thank you. Please be seated. - THANK YOU AND ENJOY4 / 4
An evening like this takes many hands, so please join me in thanking our volunteers and sponsors.
[APPLAUSE]
The food is ready, the band is warming up, and the fireworks begin at {Fireworks time}. Have a wonderful night, stay safe, and happy Independence Day!
Red is used only for names, titles, organisations, dates, times and section headings. Replace the words in {curly brackets} with your own details; lines in [SQUARE BRACKETS] are stage directions and are not read aloud.
How to adapt it
- During the national anthem, guests stand and face the flag, and civilians usually place their right hand over the heart. A short announcement helps guests from abroad know what to do.
- A public reading of the Declaration's opening paragraphs is a popular Fourth of July tradition. Choose a confident reader and print the passage in large type on its own card.
- Confirm the fireworks start time with your display operator and local permits, and mention viewing areas and safety rules in the last card so guests know where to go.
- Your audience may include new citizens and visitors from other countries. Keep the welcome inclusive and avoid partisan references so the celebration belongs to everyone.
Print and rehearse
“Edit and print these cards” opens the script in the free cue card maker, where you can choose A5, 4 × 6 or 3 × 5 inch cards, print several per sheet with cut lines or export PDF, PowerPoint and Word, and rehearse full screen in practice mode. To write your own programme around it, see how to write an MC script and the run of show template.
