Russia Day is a public holiday celebrated on 12 June. It marks the adoption of the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic on 12 June 1990. The date has been a public holiday since 1992 and is now officially called Russia Day. The white, blue and red flag is displayed across the country, concerts and festivals are held in towns and cities, and many celebrations end with evening fireworks.

    On 12 June 1990, the parliament of the Russian republic, then still part of the Soviet Union, adopted a Declaration of State Sovereignty. Since 1992 the date has been a public holiday, now known simply as Russia Day. It celebrates a vast country of many peoples, languages and traditions.
