Republic Day on 25 October is a national holiday in Kazakhstan. It marks the adoption of the Declaration on State Sovereignty in 1990, an important step on the road to the country's independence the following year. The day is celebrated with flag displays, concerts, official receptions and cultural events, and Kazakhstan's embassies abroad mark it with gatherings for the Kazakh community and friends of the country.

- WELCOME1 / 4
Good evening, dear guests. I'm {Your name}, and on behalf of {Organisation} welcome to our celebration of Republic Day. It is a pleasure to see members of the Kazakh community and so many friends of Kazakhstan together in one room tonight, and we have a lovely evening planned for you. - A DECLARATION OF SOVEREIGNTY2 / 4
On 25 October 1990, Kazakhstan adopted its Declaration on State Sovereignty. It was an important step towards full independence, which followed just over a year later. Today Republic Day celebrates the state, its people and the many cultures and languages that live side by side in Kazakhstan. - ANTHEM AND DOMBRA3 / 4
Please stand for the national anthem, Menin Qazaqstanym.
[NATIONAL ANTHEM]
Thank you. The dombra is Kazakhstan's national instrument, and its instrumental pieces, called kuy, often tell a story without words. Please welcome {Musician}.
[DOMBRA PERFORMANCE] - CLOSING4 / 4
Thank you, {Musician}, for that beautiful performance. And thank you all for celebrating with us tonight. Please stay for the reception and enjoy some Kazakh hospitality at the dastarkhan, the festive table. There is plenty for everyone. Happy Republic Day!
Red is used only for names, titles, organisations, dates, times and section headings. Replace the words in {curly brackets} with your own details; lines in [SQUARE BRACKETS] are stage directions and are not read aloud.
How to adapt it
- Republic Day and Independence Day on 16 December are different holidays. Make sure the script refers to the 1990 Declaration on State Sovereignty, not to the declaration of independence in 1991.
- Kazakh is the state language and Russian is also widely used. A short welcome in Kazakh, such as Qosh keldinizder, is a warm gesture; check the pronunciation with a native speaker first.
- Any Kazakh music or dance can replace the dombra performance. Agree the length and the title of the piece with the performer in advance so you can introduce it properly.
- Display the flag of Kazakhstan, sky blue with a golden sun and a steppe eagle, and check that the ornamental band is on the side nearest the pole.
Print and rehearse
“Edit and print these cards” opens the script in the free cue card maker, where you can choose A5, 4 × 6 or 3 × 5 inch cards, print several per sheet with cut lines or export PDF, PowerPoint and Word, and rehearse full screen in practice mode. To write your own programme around it, see how to write an MC script and the run of show template.
