    On 3 October 1932, Iraq joined the League of Nations as an independent state, and the British Mandate came to an end. It was the moment Iraq took its own seat among the nations of the world. Tonight we celebrate that milestone, and the land of the Tigris and the Euphrates, home to some of the world's earliest cities.
