Quaid-e-Azam Day is a public holiday in Pakistan on 25 December, the birth anniversary of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, born in Karachi in 1876. A lawyer and statesman, he led the All-India Muslim League and the movement that created Pakistan, and became its first Governor-General. He is honoured as Quaid-e-Azam, the Great Leader. The day is marked by the changing of the guard at his mausoleum, the Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi, and by seminars about his life. Pakistan's Christians also celebrate Christmas that day.

- WELCOME1 / 5
Good afternoon, and welcome. I'm {Your name}, and on behalf of {Organisation} thank you for joining us to remember the founder of Pakistan on the anniversary of his birth. Let us take a few quiet minutes together to reflect on his life, and on what it still asks of us. - BORN IN KARACHI2 / 5
Muhammad Ali Jinnah was born in Karachi on 25 December 1876. He studied law in London and became a distinguished barrister. As leader of the All-India Muslim League, he guided the movement that led to the creation of Pakistan in 1947, and he became the new country's first Governor-General. - OUR SPEAKER3 / 5
Many of us know Quaid-e-Azam from portraits and banknotes. To help us know him a little better, I now invite {Guest speaker, title}, {Speaker's role or expertise}, to share some reflections on his life and principles.
[SPEAKER TO LECTERN] - THE NATIONAL ANTHEM4 / 5
Thank you, {Guest speaker, title}, for those thoughtful words. As we draw to a close, please rise for the national anthem, sung today in his memory.
[NATIONAL ANTHEM]
Thank you. Please be seated. - CLOSING5 / 5
Thank you all for being here. Today is also Christmas Day, and we send warm wishes to our Christian friends and colleagues who are celebrating with their families. Please leave quietly, and carry today's reflections with you into the year ahead.
Red is used only for names, titles, organisations, dates, times and section headings. Replace the words in {curly brackets} with your own details; lines in [SQUARE BRACKETS] are stage directions and are not read aloud.
How to adapt it
- Display a portrait of Quaid-e-Azam at the front with the national flag beside it. Keep the stage simple and dignified rather than festive.
- 25 December is also Christmas, a holiday for Pakistan's Christian community. A brief, warm acknowledgement, as in the closing card, keeps the gathering welcoming for everyone present.
- Choose a speaker who can talk about his life and work using well-sourced facts, and ask them in advance to steer clear of party politics and present-day controversies.
- Formal programmes in Pakistan often open with a recitation from the Holy Quran. If yours does, place it before the welcome card and allow a brief pause afterwards.
Print and rehearse
“Edit and print these cards” opens the script in the free cue card maker, where you can choose A5, 4 × 6 or 3 × 5 inch cards, print several per sheet with cut lines or export PDF, PowerPoint and Word, and rehearse full screen in practice mode. To write your own programme around it, see how to write an MC script and the run of show template.
