Constitution Day, the Día de la Constitución, commemorates the promulgation of Mexico's Constitution on 5 February 1917. Drafted by a constituent congress in Querétaro after years of revolution, it is still in force today, with many amendments, and is often cited as one of the first constitutions in the world to include social rights, such as the rights of workers. The historical anniversary is 5 February, while the official public holiday falls on the first Monday of February.

  1. BUENOS DÍAS
Good morning, and buenos días. I'm {Your name}, and on behalf of {School or organisation} welcome to our ceremony for Constitution Day. As at many civic ceremonies in Mexico, we begin by honouring the flag. Please stand as the flag escort enters, and remain standing for the national anthem.

  2. A CONSTITUTION FROM QUERÉTARO
Thank you, please be seated. On 5 February 1917, after years of revolution, a constituent congress meeting in Querétaro promulgated the Constitution that still governs Mexico today. It was among the first in the world to set out social rights, including the rights of workers. It has been amended many times, but it remains the foundation of the country's laws.

  3. OUR GUEST SPEAKER
To tell us what the Constitution means in everyday life, I'm pleased to welcome {Guest speaker, title}.
    [GUEST SPEAKER]
Thank you. It is easy to forget that the rights we take for granted were once written down for the first time, by people who hoped they would last.

  4. CLOSING
Thank you all for joining us. The Constitution is not only for lawyers and lawmakers. It belongs to every citizen, and it is well worth reading. Before you leave, please stand once more as the flag escort withdraws.

    Thank you.
