Revolution Day, the Día de la Revolución, marks the start of the Mexican Revolution on 20 November 1910, the date Francisco I. Madero set in his Plan de San Luis for an uprising against the long rule of Porfirio Díaz. The revolution lasted about a decade, involved leaders such as Emiliano Zapata and Francisco Villa, and led to the Constitution of 1917. The official holiday falls on the third Monday of November, and schools hold parades and civic events.

- WELCOME1 / 4
Good afternoon, and welcome. I'm {Your name}, and on behalf of {Organisation} thank you for joining us for Revolution Day. Some of our youngest guests have come dressed as revolutionaries, with sombreros, rebozos and painted moustaches. Behind the costumes lies a story that deserves to be told properly. - A CALL TO RISE2 / 4
In 1910, Francisco I. Madero called on Mexicans to rise up on 20 November against a government that had held power for decades. What followed was a revolution that lasted around ten years and reshaped the country. Its leaders, including Emiliano Zapata and Francisco Villa, are still remembered today. - SONGS OF THE REVOLUTION3 / 4
The revolution also left Mexico its corridos, ballads that carried news of battles and heroes from town to town. To hear one, please welcome {Musicians}.
[CORRIDO PERFORMANCE]
Thank you. Songs like these kept alive the memory of ordinary people, not only that of generals. - A MOMENT TO REFLECT4 / 4
The revolution brought great change, and also great loss. Many people on all sides lost their lives. As we close, let us take a quiet moment to think of them, and of the rights later written into the Constitution of 1917.
[MOMENT OF REFLECTION]
Thank you all for coming.
Red is used only for names, titles, organisations, dates, times and section headings. Replace the words in {curly brackets} with your own details; lines in [SQUARE BRACKETS] are stage directions and are not read aloud.
How to adapt it
- The public holiday falls on the third Monday of November, but schools often mark the anniversary itself on 20 November. Check this year's dates and adjust the wording in the cards.
- Many girls dress as Adelitas, after the women of the revolution celebrated in the corrido La Adelita. Invite the children in costume to the front for a group photo after the ceremony.
- Revolutionary leaders are remembered differently in different regions. Present them factually, avoid casting anyone as hero or villain, and keep current politics out of the programme.
Print and rehearse
“Edit and print these cards” opens the script in the free cue card maker, where you can choose A5, 4 × 6 or 3 × 5 inch cards, print several per sheet with cut lines or export PDF, PowerPoint and Word, and rehearse full screen in practice mode. To write your own programme around it, see how to write an MC script and the run of show template.
