The anniversary of the Islamic Revolution is marked in Iran on 22 Bahman in the Iranian (Solar Hijri) calendar, which falls on 10 or 11 February. It commemorates 11 February 1979, when the revolution brought the monarchy to an end; a referendum later that year established the Islamic Republic. The day is a public holiday in Iran, marked with official ceremonies and rallies, and Iranian embassies abroad hold National Day receptions.

- WELCOME1 / 4
Good evening, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen. My name is {Your name}, and on behalf of {Organisation} I welcome you to this reception marking the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution of Iran. Thank you for taking the time to join us this evening. - THE DATE IN THE CALENDAR2 / 4
In the Iranian calendar, this anniversary falls on 22 Bahman. It recalls 11 February 1979, when the revolution brought the monarchy in Iran to an end. A referendum later that year established the Islamic Republic. Each year, the date is marked in Iran and by Iranian missions around the world. - OUR GUEST OF HONOUR3 / 4
It is now my honour to invite {Guest of honour, title} to address us.
[ADDRESS BY GUEST OF HONOUR]
Thank you for your words. We continue with a short interlude of Persian music, performed by {Musicians}.
[MUSICAL INTERLUDE] - CLOSING4 / 4
Persian music, poetry and hospitality have connected people across borders for centuries, and it has been a pleasure to share them with you tonight. Thank you to our musicians, and thank you all for being with us. Please stay and enjoy the reception.
Red is used only for names, titles, organisations, dates, times and section headings. Replace the words in {curly brackets} with your own details; lines in [SQUARE BRACKETS] are stage directions and are not read aloud.
How to adapt it
- 22 Bahman falls on 10 or 11 February depending on the year. Check the official Iranian calendar for this year's Gregorian date before you set the date of your event.
- Views on the revolution differ widely, including among Iranians living abroad. Keep the script ceremonial and factual, and avoid comments on government, leaders or current politics.
- At diplomatic receptions, confirm titles, the order of speakers and whether the national anthem will be played with the protocol office well in advance.
- Plan an alcohol-free reception and leave out any raised-glass toast. Tea with Persian sweets, or a table of fruit and nuts, makes a welcoming alternative.
Print and rehearse
“Edit and print these cards” opens the script in the free cue card maker, where you can choose A5, 4 × 6 or 3 × 5 inch cards, print several per sheet with cut lines or export PDF, PowerPoint and Word, and rehearse full screen in practice mode. To write your own programme around it, see how to write an MC script and the run of show template.
