Bonifacio Day is a regular holiday in the Philippines on 30 November, the birth anniversary of Andrés Bonifacio, born in Tondo, Manila, in 1863. One of the founders of the Katipunan, the secret society that launched the revolution against Spanish rule in 1896, he became its leader, or Supremo, and is widely regarded as the Father of the Philippine Revolution. The day is marked with wreath-laying ceremonies at monuments such as the Bonifacio Monument in Caloocan, flag ceremonies and school programmes.

- OPENING AND FLAG CEREMONY1 / 4
Good morning. I'm {Your name}, and on behalf of {Organisation} I welcome you as we honour Andrés Bonifacio on the anniversary of his birth. Let us begin by standing for our flag and the national anthem.
[FLAG CEREMONY – LUPANG HINIRANG] - A SON OF TONDO2 / 4
Bonifacio was born on 30 November 1863 in Tondo, Manila. He came from a modest family, worked from a young age and was largely self-taught. In 1892 he helped found the Katipunan, a secret society that united ordinary Filipinos in the cause of freedom. - THE CALL TO REVOLUTION3 / 4
In 1896, the Katipunan launched the revolution against Spanish rule, with Bonifacio as its Supremo. He did not live to see independence declared, but the movement he helped begin changed the course of Philippine history. That is why so many still call him the Father of the Philippine Revolution. - OFFERING OF FLOWERS4 / 4
I now invite {Guest of honour, title} to offer flowers before the portrait of Bonifacio.
[OFFERING OF FLOWERS]
Thank you. Bonifacio showed that courage does not depend on wealth or rank. As we return to our day, let us remember him with gratitude. Thank you for joining us.
Red is used only for names, titles, organisations, dates, times and section headings. Replace the words in {curly brackets} with your own details; lines in [SQUARE BRACKETS] are stage directions and are not read aloud.
How to adapt it
- The holiday is sometimes moved to a nearby Monday by presidential proclamation, so check this year's official list of holidays before fixing the date of your programme.
- Bonifacio's death in 1897, after a conflict within the revolutionary leadership, is still discussed by historians. Keep the script focused on his life and the Katipunan rather than that dispute.
- If your event is at a monument, coordinate the timing with the local government, which may hold its own wreath-laying ceremony there on the same morning.
- Bonifacio is closely associated with working people. Inviting a worker, student or community volunteer to offer flowers alongside the guest of honour suits his story.
Print and rehearse
“Edit and print these cards” opens the script in the free cue card maker, where you can choose A5, 4 × 6 or 3 × 5 inch cards, print several per sheet with cut lines or export PDF, PowerPoint and Word, and rehearse full screen in practice mode. To write your own programme around it, see how to write an MC script and the run of show template.
