Yom HaAtzmaut is Israel's Independence Day, observed on 5 Iyar in the Hebrew calendar. It marks the declaration of the State of Israel in Tel Aviv on 14 May 1948. The day begins at sunset, directly after Yom HaZikaron, the Memorial Day for fallen soldiers and victims of terror, with a torch-lighting ceremony on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. Celebrations include fireworks, flag displays, family barbecues and the Israel Prize ceremony.

How to adapt it
- Yom HaAtzmaut follows the Hebrew calendar and begins at sunset. It may be moved by a day or two to avoid Shabbat, so check the official date for this year before you fix your event.
- Because the day follows Memorial Day directly, Israelis mark the move from remembrance to celebration. Keep the short acknowledgement in the second card, especially if bereaved families may be present.
- For many Palestinians, the events of 1948 are remembered as the Nakba. Keep the script ceremonial and focused on the occasion, and avoid statements about current politics or conflicts.
- Hatikvah is sung standing. Display the blue and white flag of Israel, and arrange kosher catering if observant guests are attending.
Print and rehearse
“Edit and print these cards” opens the script in the free cue card maker, where you can choose A5, 4 × 6 or 3 × 5 inch cards, print several per sheet with cut lines or export PDF, PowerPoint and Word, and rehearse full screen in practice mode. To write your own programme around it, see how to write an MC script and the run of show template.
