Reunification Day is a public holiday in Vietnam on 30 April. Its full Vietnamese name translates as Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day. It marks the end of the war on 30 April 1975 in Saigon, now Ho Chi Minh City, and the path to the country's formal reunification in 1976. Flags line the streets, larger celebrations are held on major anniversaries, and the holiday is usually combined with Labour Day on 1 May for a long break.

- WELCOME1 / 4
Good afternoon, and welcome. I'm {Your name}, and on behalf of {Organisation} thank you for joining us. Today we pause to reflect on a date that shaped the history of Vietnam and the lives of countless families: the thirtieth of April. - THE END OF A WAR2 / 4
On 30 April 1975, decades of war in Vietnam came to an end in Saigon, the city now called Ho Chi Minh City. The following year, the country was formally reunified. For many families it was a time of homecoming; for others, it brought great change and new journeys. - A MOMENT OF REFLECTION3 / 4
War touched every region and every kind of family. Let us take a moment to remember all who lost their lives, and all who still carry its memory.
[ONE MINUTE OF REFLECTION]
Thank you. Peace was hard-won, and it deserves our care. - MUSIC FOR PEACE4 / 4
To close our programme, please welcome {Musician or choir}, who will perform {Song title}.
[MUSICAL PERFORMANCE]
Thank you. May this day remind us how much we gain when families are together and people live in peace. Enjoy the long holiday, and travel safely.

How to adapt it
- In printed programmes, consider using the full name, Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day. In speech, 'Reunification Day' or simply 'the thirtieth of April' is widely understood.
- For many Vietnamese communities abroad, 30 April recalls loss, displacement and refugee journeys, and the date is remembered very differently. Know your audience, keep the wording neutral and centred on peace and family, and avoid politics.
- The holiday runs straight into Labour Day on 1 May, and many people travel. Hold school and workplace gatherings before the break, and change 'today' in the cards if needed.
- Choose music with care: songs closely tied to one side of the war can upset some guests. A traditional folk song or an instrumental piece suits a mixed audience.
Print and rehearse
“Edit and print these cards” opens the script in the free cue card maker, where you can choose A5, 4 × 6 or 3 × 5 inch cards, print several per sheet with cut lines or export PDF, PowerPoint and Word, and rehearse full screen in practice mode. To write your own programme around it, see how to write an MC script and the run of show template.
